  • Bukola Saraki Criticizes Godswill Akpabio Over Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Allegations
  • Saraki Accuses Akpabio of Politicizing a Serious Issue

GoldenNewsNg reports that the Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has strongly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, over his recent remarks regarding the sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Saraki accused Akpabio of downplaying a critical issue and using political rhetoric to shift attention from the matter at hand.

Saraki Responds to Akpabio’s Claims

Saraki expressed disappointment over Akpabio’s claim that calls for a transparent investigation into the allegations were merely an attempt to remove him from office due to his Niger Delta origin. The former Kwara State governor dismissed these assertions, emphasizing that the demand for due process should not be reduced to political or ethnic sentiments.

In a statement issued on Sunday, March 9, 2025, by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki urged Akpabio to prioritize the integrity of the Senate and ensure an impartial investigation into the matter.

“Rather than exploit ethnic sentiments and political divisions, Akpabio should focus on preserving the credibility of the institution he leads. The allegations should be thoroughly investigated and addressed transparently.”

Saraki Denies Calling for Akpabio’s Resignation

Contrary to claims circulating in political circles, Saraki clarified that he never called for Akpabio’s resignation. Instead, he stressed the importance of protecting the Senate’s reputation by handling the allegations in a fair and unbiased manner.

“Perception often becomes reality, and the best way to protect the integrity of the Senate is through a transparent process. This issue should not be politicized but addressed responsibly.”

Akpabio Dismisses Allegations, Calls Them Baseless

Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has maintained his stance that the allegations against him are false. Speaking at an event commemorating International Women’s Day, Akpabio claimed that the accusations arose after changes were made to the seat and committee led by Akpoti-Uduaghan. He further argued that previous allegations made by the senator against other individuals had not been substantiated.

Akpabio also expressed concern over the impact of these allegations on the 10th Senate, stating that they have created unnecessary distractions within the legislative body.

As the controversy continues, Saraki’s remarks highlight the need for transparency and accountability in handling sensitive issues within Nigeria’s political landscape. While Akpabio insists on his innocence, the focus remains on ensuring due process and maintaining public trust in the Senate’s leadership.

Tinubu’s minister reacts To Natasha’s suspension

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government has addressed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations against Akpabio.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Iman Suleiman-Ibrahim, stated that the executive was negotiating with the national assembly on the matter.

Suleiman-Ibrahim said that the federal government would be acting as the intermediary between the two parties to help broker peace.
