Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, born on October 27, 1956, was a highly respected Nigerian physician. Her significant contribution came during the Western African Ebola virus epidemic when she played a pivotal role in containing the outbreak in Nigeria. Her unwavering commitment to the greater public good led her to resist the demands of Liberian officials who wanted Sawyer to attend a conference.

Adadevoh’s quick thinking and decisive actions prevented the Nigerian index case from leaving the hospital upon diagnosis, ultimately saving countless lives and limiting the transmission of the virus. Tragically, on August 4, 2014, it was confirmed that she had contracted Ebola virus disease herself and was undergoing treatment. Sadly, Adadevoh passed away on the afternoon of August 19, 2014, leaving behind her husband Afolabi, her son Bankole, and other grieving relatives.
