Pope Benedict XVI, the former head of the Catholic Church, has passed away at the age of 95.
Goldennewsng reports that Matteo Bruni, spokesman for the Vatican, made the brief announcement on Thursday.
“With sorrow I inform you that the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9:34 in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican,” is the statement that was included in the statement.
Pope Benedict was the first pontiff since the Middle Ages to step down as head of the Catholic Church in 2013.
