On Saturday, an explosion in Kidandan village, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, injured at least 10 children who were playing with an object discovered in a nearby bush.
As they tinkered with the suspected bomb, it suddenly exploded. The village head, Alhaji Abubakar Ruka, confirmed the incident and reported that the injured children were rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital and Shika Hospital in Zaria for treatment.
The names of the victims are currently being compiled, and the police have visited the community. Alhaji Abubakar Ruka stated, “The incident happened today (Saturday) when the children were playing with an object they found near the bush. The object suddenly exploded on them. 10 of them were injured, and no deaths were reported, but they were taken to the hospital for treatment. Right now, I’m compiling their names.”
Meanwhile, bandits killed a school principal, Idris Abu Sufyan, abducted his wife and her baby at Kuriga village along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway in Kaduna on Thursday night. The assailants stormed the village, shot the principal dead, and abducted his wife and son to an unknown destination. Sabiu Gayam, one of the late principal’s friends, announced the friend’s demise on his Facebook page, stating that he was attacked by hoodlums.
The post expresses condolences for the death of Mal. Idris Abu Sufyan Kuriga, the principal of Government Secondary School, Kuriga, who was killed by thieves on the previous night.
The thieves also abducted his only wife. The author of the post, Sabiu Gayam, shares his personal connection with Malam Idris, as he was both his secondary teacher and colleague at Government Junior Secondary School, Gayam, before Malam Idris became the principal in Kuriga.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, confirmed both incidents to Sunday PUNCH on Saturday when contacted. Regarding the explosion in Kidandan village, he stated, “Yes. The children actually picked an object at a nearby bush. In the process of playing with the object, it exploded on them. We have sent our Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit squad to the scene of the incident to ascertain the situation. But nine people were injured.”
Concerning the killing of the school principal and the abduction of his wife and son, the police spokesman assured that security operatives were actively addressing the situation. He stated, “Security agencies and not only the police are trying their best on how they can rescue the abducted wife and her son and apprehend the culprits.”
