Chelsea started the new season with a 3-1 win over Brighton with two debutants in the starting line up, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Despite the appearance of the two most sought after new boys, it was old and familiar faces that got the goals in a quite comfortable victory at the Amex stadium.
Jorginho converted a 23rd minute penalty won by Werner for a largely uneventful first half.
Brighton halved the deficit 9 minutes into the restart when Leandro Trossard levelled in the 54th minute with a long range effort which Kepa Arrizabalaga should have done better with.
The blues restored their lead 2 minutes later when Reece James rifled home a stunning effort for his first Premier League goal.
Kourt Zouma put the game to bed with a goal of his own which diverted off Adam Webster, leaving Ryan rooted to the spot to hand Frank Lampard a season opening win going into the weekends clash with champions Liverpool.
