Court has Suspended 2025/2026 Admissions Into UNILAG, OAU Over Student Petition
GoldenNewsNg reports that the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has ordered the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to suspend all admission processes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The interim order, issued by Justice A.T. Segun-Bello on Tuesday, followed an ex-parte motion filed by a group of candidates: Chibuzor Success, Oyeleye Zainab Ayomide, Adedeji John Samuel, Monsura Aliat Aduragbem, and Bassey Daniel Nsikak, on behalf of other affected applicants who participated in the 2025 post-UTME examinations of the two institutions.

The applicants sought injunctions restraining the universities and JAMB from releasing, approving, uploading, or finalizing any admission list for the new academic session.
In his ruling, Justice Segun-Bello noted that the case raised a “veritable and triable issue” which required both parties to be heard. He therefore directed that the respondents be put on notice and ordered all parties to maintain the status quo, preserving the current state of affairs regarding the admission list.
The case has been adjourned to October 28, 2025, for substantive hearing.
Education technology expert and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, confirmed the development in a post on X, stating that the ruling places a temporary suspension on admissions pending further court proceedings.
