According to the Labour Party, the Department of State Service has expressed its regret for arresting Dr. Doyin Okupe today.
Goldennewsng reports that Okupe served as the party’s Presidential Campaign Council’s General Director in the past.
Okupe’s arrest was referred to by LP as “embarrassing.”
Because Okupe has fulfilled the requirement for his release following his conviction for money laundering, the party said that the second arrest was unjustified.
“I can confirm to you that Dr Doyin is fine, he left Awolowo way, the DSS facility moments ago and the DSS has apologised to him for the error they have done in re-arresting him,” Yunusa Tanko, the chief spokesman for the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, said.
“For us, this is an embarrassment for someone who has already paid for the accusation that was leveled against him at the Federal High Court because if he had anything left over, he would not have left the courthouse as a free man.
“This was planned to make him look bad. The DSS has apologized to him, and I can tell you right now that he has been released and is continuing his journey.”
However, Okupe had stated that the EFCC had apologized to him for the commission’s error in remanding him, in contrast to the party’s position.
“I was arrested and detained at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos this morning, January 12, on my way to the UK for medicals, years after my passport was withheld by the FHC, Abuja,” Okupe wrote in a tweet on his official handle.
“I just left the EFCC office where the senior and younger officers in Lagos and Abuja apologized to me for the error,” the spokesperson stated.
He inquired about the action to determine if it posed an occupational risk.
