“Former Minister Solomon Dalung and cleric Prophet Isa El-Buba lead protest in Jos against bad governance and economic hardship, calling for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation.”

In a bold display of civic activism, former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, and prominent cleric, Prophet Isa El-Buba, led hundreds of residents in Jos to join the nationwide protests against bad governance and economic hardship. The protests, which began on Thursday, saw people taking to the streets despite warnings from the state government and security agencies.

Dalung, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, emphasized the importance of peaceful assembly, reminding security agencies that the Constitution protects this right. “We should not be intimidated. Our Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful protest,” he stated to news reporters.

Prophet Isa El-Buba, known for his outspoken stance on national issues, called for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu. As the Convener of the Initiative for a Better and Brighter Nigeria, El-Buba voiced his dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s handling of governance, urging immediate change. “President Bola Tinubu must resign; we cannot wait for 2027 to change him! Hunger will not allow us to endure that long,” El-Buba declared passionately.

The protesters marched through various streets, chanting and holding placards demanding better governance and economic relief. El-Buba further announced that the protests would continue for the next 10 days or until their demands were met. “We are going to be here for the next 10 days. If you don’t stand up for your rights, no one will do it for you,” he asserted.

This protest in Jos is part of a larger national movement aimed at addressing the widespread discontent with the current state of governance and economic conditions in Nigeria. The protesters’ call for change echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who are struggling with economic challenges and are demanding more accountable and responsive leadership.
