ENDSARS Panel Report: Buhari Finally Breaks Silence
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday broke silence and reacted to the report released by the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the shooting and abuse of citizens during the ENDSARS protest at the lekki toll gate
It can be recalled that the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had set up the panel to look into the killings and assaults of protesters at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos.
GoldenNewsNg had earlier reported that the panel on Monday submitted the report to the state government indicting the military and the Nigerian police force.
This development has drawn reactions from human rights activists and the international community calling on the federal government to act on the report of the Lagos State panel.
President Buhari on Thursday during a meeting with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said his administration will look into the report after the Lagos State Government has concluded work on it.
The spokesman to the President, Femi Adesina, quoting Mr president said, “So many state governments are involved, and have given different terms of reference to the probe panels.”
“We at the Federal have to wait for the steps taken by the state and we have to allow the system to work. We can’t impose ideas on them. Federal Government has to wait for the reaction of the states.”
Meanwhile, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has condemned the leakage of the report of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry.
Falana in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, on Wednesday, said the leaked version of the report could jeopardize the thorough work done by the panel.
The human rights activist, however, asked the state government to only release the report after a White Paper has been raised.
