The Federal Government has declared December 26 and 27, as well as January 2, 2023, as public holidays.
Goldennewsng reports that on Friday, the permanent secretary, Belgore Shuaib, issued a statement announcing the Christmas holidays for the ministry of interior.
The celebrations of Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day are the purposes of the public holidays.
“We must imbibe the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness,” the interior minister Rauf Aregbesola stated.
The minister urged Christians to pray during the holiday season for the complete eradication of Nigeria’s unrest.
He stated that economic growth and prosperity require both peace and security.
Aregbesola pleaded with Nigerians not to be influenced by “criminal elements” with the goal of “creating anarchy in the country.”
He added, “Moderately celebrate the festival, avoid spreading false information, and be responsible.”
The minister encouraged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing useful information and stated that the federal government has implemented measures to protect lives and property.
He advised Nigerians to be security conscious and to use the N-Alert Android and iOS app to report anything suspicious.
