FG Launches TVET Program To Pay Trainees ₦22,500 Monthly Stipends

The Federal Government has officially launched the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program, an initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with hands-on skills that can lead to sustainable employment or entrepreneurship.

Unveiled at an event in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, described the initiative as a major step toward addressing unemployment and supporting the country’s industrial growth.

What is the TVET Initiative?

The TVET program is a nationwide training initiative designed to address the skills gap in Nigeria. It provides tuition-free vocational training, a monthly stipend of ₦22,500, and starter packs for trainees who complete their courses.

The program will run through public and private technical institutions, as well as certified artisans and vocational centers. It features two main pathways: a three-year structured program for young students and a 6 to 12-month training option for older participants looking to upskill quickly
