FG Secures $800m World Bank Grant For Vulnerable Nigerians
The Nigerian Federal Government has disclosed that it has secured an $800 million grant from the World Bank. This grant is aimed at providing palliatives to 50 million vulnerable Nigerians or 10 million households, in preparation for the planned subsidy removal scheduled to take effect in June 2023.
This online newspaper has learned that Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, made the announcement during a weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari today.
According to reports, Mrs. Ahmed emphasized that discussions are underway with the Presidential Transition Council (PTC) and the incoming administration to implement the palliative program. This program includes the provision of buses among other considerations.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has sanctioned the sum of 10.9 billion naira for the procurement and installation of information and communication technology components for the 2023 National population census, which is scheduled to take place in May. This decision was made during the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari today.
