FIFA has chosen Morocco, a country in North Africa, to host the Club World Cup in 2023.
Goldennewsng reports that In February, the nation was chosen to host the Club World Cup, which will expand to 32 teams in 2025.
The announcement was made on Friday by Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA. According to the Associated Press, Infantino told reporters at a press conference in Doha that the tournament will take place from February 1 to February 11, 2023.
The traditional seven-team tournament will feature European champion Real Madrid, South American champion Flamengo, and Seattle Sounders, the first team from the United States to win the CONCACAF Champions League.
Morocco will host the next major soccer tournament after a thrilling and inspirational World Cup campaign that saw them lose in the semi-finals in Qatar.
It will be one of the last seven-group versions for mainland champions with an extended, drawn out competition wanted to begin in 2025.
According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the goal was to “make it really like a World Cup.”
He stated, “We had agreed to have a new 24-team men’s Club World Cup a few years ago.” It was supposed to take place in 2021, but because of Covid, it was put off.
“The new competition, which will be held in 2025 and feature 32 teams, will be very similar to the World Cup.”
The Club World Cup was held in Morocco in 2013 and again in 2014. The most recent tournament, which Chelsea won in February, was held in the United Arab Emirates.
