Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago has commiserated with the Niger State Correspondents’ Chapel over the death of its member, Mathew Jwantu.
Until his death, the late Jwantu was the Niger state correspondent of a Jos based Standard Newspapers.
The Governor in a condolence message, by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, described the death of the Journalist as painful and sorrowful.
He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Niger State Council.
Also, journalists practicing in Niger state have expressed their condolences to the late Jwantu and pray God to grant his soul eternal rest.
Some Journalists while lamenting disclosed that, if he had gotten better medical attention, he probably still would be alive, adding that, “the late Jwantu required a little over a million naira but all efforts to raise the money did not scale through. We only got some fractions that could not get the prescribed medications.
“Well, our prayers will continue to for the family he left behind. As we mourn our dear colleague, may we (Journalists) not have any reason(s) whatsoever that will make us want to rely on anyone that can not come to our aid.
“How much is one million naira to save someone’s life who has worked and covered the State for over Thirteen years?
“So much protocol to follow just to get help for someone whose case is already an emergency one.”
According to one of the executive members of the State Correspondent Chapel “we have lost a colleague, brother, friend. He was our Treasurer. May the Almighty God grant the departed eternal rest and comfort his family and us his professional colleagues the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”.
