  1. Does UNILAG Offer Law? Yes, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) is one of the few universities in Nigeria that is fully accredited to offer Law as a course. Students who wish to become lawyers and find UNILAG suitable can apply through JAMB or other direct entry options like JUPEB.
  2. Requirements Checklist: To study Law at UNILAG, you must meet the following JAMB and O’ level subject (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) requirements:

JAMB Subject: Use of English, Any three (3) Arts or Social Science subjects. O’ level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) Requirement: Five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes, including English Language, Literature in English, and Mathematics.

For Direct Entry, the requirements are as follows: (i) Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects. (ii) NCE/ND/First Degree (Second Class Lower).

  1. Cut-Off Mark for Law in UNILAG: To qualify for Post UTME, you must score at least 200 in JAMB to study Law at UNILAG. However, scoring 200 in JAMB does not guarantee admission into the Faculty of Law. Law is a highly competitive course, and it is recommended to aim for a JAMB score of 300 and above. Additionally, performing well in the UNILAG Post UTME exam is crucial for admission.
  2. Post UTME Score for Law in UNILAG: A score of 80 in the UNILAG Post UTME exam is considered good enough to secure a spot in the College of Medicine at UNILAG. It is important to achieve a high score in both JAMB and Post UTME as admission to the Faculty of Law is based on various factors, including merit, ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States), and general student performance. Students admitted on the merit list must score well above the aggregate score for Law, which is typically 80.
  3. UNILAG Aggregate Score for Law: The aggregate score for admission into Law at UNILAG is 80. To calculate the UNILAG admission aggregate score, divide your JAMB score by 8 and your Post UTME score by 2, and then sum them up. The aggregate score is the sum of your JAMB score divided by 8 and your Post UTME score divided by 2. A higher JAMB and Post UTME score will result in a higher average aggregate score, increasing your chances of admission.
  4. Other Direct Entry Requirement: In addition to JAMB, you can be admitted to study Law at UNILAG through the JUPEB program. JUPEB stands for Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board. To apply for this program, you need to purchase the form for NGN15,000 and sit for the entrance exam. The entrance exam is more of a formality, as most students are allowed to participate in the JUPEB program. The program spans 1 year (2 semesters), and successful candidates will be given admission to study Law starting from 200 level. During the program, you will need to pay a fee of NGN150,000

    JAMB Direct Entry

If you have previously studied other courses and now wish to pursue Law, you can apply for JAMB direct entry and be admitted to the 200 level. To be eligible, the student must hold at least a NCE/ND/First Degree with a Second Class Lower grade.
