How Schools Conduct Post UTME For 2023 Admission Processing

It is no longer news that after sitting for JAMB, the next exam you need to prepare for is your Post UTME. Understanding how these screenings are conducted is crucial. This article will provide insights into the different methods employed by schools for Post UTME screenings and the requirements involved.

Importance Of Post UTME

1. Admission Statistics: Out of the 1.2 million students who sat for JAMB, only around 30% are granted admission. Approximately 70% of students who passed JAMB are denied admission, not solely due to low JAMB scores. Other factors play a role in gaining admission to universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education.

2. Admission Criteria: JAMB constitutes 50% of the admission criteria. Even with a high JAMB score, such as 270, you only have a 50% chance of gaining admission. The remaining 50% is determined by the school you applied to, ensuring check and balance and preventing JAMB from having sole responsibility for admitting students.

 Overview Of Post UTME

1. Post UTME Meaning: Post UTME stands for Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam. Schools independently organize and conduct their Post UTME exams. Passing the Post UTME is equally important, if not more, than performing well in JAMB. Understanding how schools conduct these screenings is essential for success.

2. Different Screening Methods: Various methods are employed by schools for Post UTME screenings. These include:

A. Test Screening:

  1. Method Explanation: Test screening is the most popular and widely used method. It involves students sitting for an exam prepared by the school, similar to JAMB. The test can be a Paper Pen Test (PPT) or a Computer Based Test (CBT). Most schools prefer CBT over PPT.
  2. Schools Employing this Method: Universities like the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), and UNIZIK often use test screening.

B. Physical Screening:

  1. Method Explanation: Physical screening does not involve an exam. Instead, the student’s presence and qualification certificate are required. This method occurs in two phases. Initially, students submit their documents online, and then they present them physically to the school for validation.
  2. Document Requirements:
  • Original JAMB Result
  • O’level Certificate or result printout with respective scratch card
  • Online Post UTME Registration Printout
  • Screening Schedule Printout
  • Birth Certificate
  • Local Government of Origin Certificate
  • JAMB Direct Entry registration slip for DE students
  • JAMB UTME registration slip for UTME students

C. Online Screening:

  1. Method Explanation: Online screening requires students to submit their credentials online without sitting for an exam. It is similar to physical screening but does not involve physical contact with the screening officer for validation.
  2. Document Requirements: The document requirements for online screening are similar to those listed in the physical screening method.

D. Oral Screening:

  1. Method Explanation: Oral screening, although less common, is used primarily for Direct Entry students. It involves an interview-like oral examination where students respond to questions asked by the screening panel.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How will I know if my school will conduct Post UTME or not? Schools determine the screening method when they release their Post UTME forms each year. Methods may vary, so be prepared for any eventuality.
  • What is the difference between screening and Post UTME? Screening involves the submission of requested credentials, while Post UTME includes sitting for an exam.

    In Conclusion

Prepare fervently for your Post UTME like your school can use any of the methods, Test screening, Online Screening, Physical screening or Oral screening, get past questions from colleagues and stop procrastinating
