The Nigerian singer and music executive, Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid, has said he did not think his hit song “Essence” would go double platinum in the United States.
GoldenNewsNg reports that the Starboy founder said he knew the song which features songstress, Tems was magically but when it went snatched two platinum certifications, he was in disbelief.
Wizkid made the statement during an interview as he recalled that when Essence was released, he tweeted about the song being magic, but it was crazy that it was certified platinum in US twice.
He also expressed joy with the fact that the song was produced in Lagos and it is achieving a big feat in America.

In March 3, 2022 ‘Essence’ got certified double platinum in the US, which was a historic milestine.
The single off his Made In Lagos album became the first Nigerian song to be certified platinum in the US.
An album or single is certified platinum when it moves the equivalent of two million physical sales in the US.
Essence first got platinum certification on October 5, 2021, and at the time, it became the first African song to hit that milestone.
