Former Imo State governor Ikedi Ohakim claims that his bulletproof car saved him on Monday night when his convoy was attacked and four police officers were killed. If the gunmen hadn’t wanted to kill him and his two children inside, they wouldn’t have been in the car.
Goldennewsng reports that On Tuesday, Ohakim told reporters in Owerri about how the attackers attacked him in the town of Umualumaku while he was driving between the Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano Local Government Areas of Imo state.
Ohakim stated, “We were driving between Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano,” in order to explain how it occurred. At a location called Umualumaku, these people blocked our path. They repeatedly fired at our vehicles and attacked us from behind. I was with two of my children, my son and daughter, and I thought I was dead. The bullet-proof vehicle saved me. Thanks to God’s special grace and the bulletproof vehicle, I am alive today.
However, they killed four of our boys, including the driver, which was unfortunate for me. Yes, four boys passed away, and I’m devastated. How is that possible? Which offense did they engage in? According to Ohakim, the attackers continued to pursue his driver even after he was able to flee the scene.
They continued to fire at our tires as they pursued us. Fortunately, the vehicle has run-flat tires, allowing you to drive even after a puncture. Therefore, the vehicle continued to move despite the fact that they fired at the tires in an effort to stop us. They would be cornered and killed if they were regular tires and the vehicle had stopped.
However, the tires held on until we returned home. Before we got home, we drove for about 20 minutes. That was the redeeming quality. They went in the opposite direction on the road to Umuahia, not knowing where we had gone, as the extremely skilled driver continued to maneuver until he lost them at a junction when he went right.
“We then turned and returned to my home. We were there when Imo Government House sent support from Owerri who brought the bodies of my security individuals.”
I have to say that this goes beyond the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). These are trained professionals. They are not typical individuals. They were operating a brand-new BMW 5-series in blue. They showed up to kill me.
“I have no idea what this all means. It’s getting so bad. Will people not return home again? Are we going to remain permanently in Owerri and Abuja without returning to our communities?” Ohakim stated that the former governor shed tears.
