On Monday, Senator and former Governor of Ogun State and Ogun Central Senatorial District Ibikunle Amosun stormed Abeokuta with hundreds of his supporters from across Ogun State.
Goldennewsng reports that this gathering took place just two weeks after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was ordered by the Abeokuta High Court to remove the names of his African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates from the list of candidates for the 2023 general elections.
However, as they gathered at the Ake Palace Square for an empowerment program, Amosun and his supporters appeared unperturbed by the court’s decision.
In interviews with journalists, Amosun insisted that even though he stepped down from office nearly four years ago, he will continue to be a significant player in Ogun politics.
Amosun urged them to remain calm and boasted that the majority of the State’s population was still firmly behind him.
He stated that his support for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unwavering and that he will continue to support him in the presidential election.
Before, during, and after the elections, the former governor urged Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and maintain order.
All of us ought to go out and get our PVCs, and we shouldn’t fight. This is Ogun State, and we ought to avoid violence. We support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on every level. Amosun stated, “There is no controversy regarding that one.”
DAILY POST recalls that Amosun stated that he would not support the APC in the 2023 Ogun governorship election.
He stated that by publicly supporting Biyi Otegbeye of the ADC, he would do so.
Amosun stated that he had extended his empowerment program to the other two senatorial districts of Ogun East and West as the Ogun Senator due to the love and support he receives from constituents in those districts.
Although Ogun East and West have their own Senators and have been giving their people things, I’m doing this in the Central, and I felt that I should extend that courtesy to our people in Ogun West and East. This is a novel aspect of what we are doing today, even though Ogun Central will have more because I represent Ogun Central. Despite the fact that Ogun Central will have more, I know we have our people in the East and West as well.
According to him, “It is not only the people of Ogun Central that have been supporting me since, our people from Ogun West and East have also been supporting our course, and I feel they should also benefit from this empowerment programme.”
