IPPIS: FG to delist unverified Civil Servant from payroll on Friday, October 27
The Federal Government is taking decisive action to maintain the integrity of its payroll system. In line with this commitment, unverified civil servants will be delisted from the payroll after the ongoing Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) verification exercise, concluding on Friday, October 27, 2023.
Mr. Mohammed Ahmed, the Director of Communication at the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), announced this significant step. The IPPIS was initially introduced in 2007 to enhance transparency, accuracy, security, and reliability in managing personnel records while controlling unwarranted personnel cost excesses.
Mr. Ahmed elaborated on the reasons for commencing the IPPIS implementation with the payroll module. He stated, “Driven by the government’s quest to curb ghost workers syndrome and block leakages through personnel cost, the implementation of IPPIS commenced with the Payroll module rather than the Human Resource component.”
The HOCSF conducted multiple verification exercises to ensure the accuracy of personnel records. Some civil servants faced challenges in getting their records verified. Consequently, an extension period was granted for them to update their records from October 3 to 13. Following this, they were required to attend physical verification in Abuja. However, the ongoing exercise aims to finalize the verification of all civil servants’ records, and those whose records cannot be verified will be delisted from the government’s payroll at the conclusion of the two-week exercise on Friday, October 27.
In September, the federal government removed over 17,000 government employees from the IPPIS platform for their failure to comply with verification exercises spanning five years. An additional two-week grace period was subsequently granted for unverified officers, demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring the accuracy and transparency of its payroll system.
