Full Breakdown of 2025 JAMB UTME Results Released

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released a detailed statistical analysis of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. According to the data, out of the total 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the examination, more than half (50.29%) scored between 160 and 199 marks.

This latest update gives insight into the overall performance of candidates and highlights a significant concentration of scores in the mid-to-lower range.

Breakdown of the 2025 UTME Scores

The performance chart reveals the following:

  • Scores between 160 – 199: 983,187 candidates (50.29%)

  • Scores between 140 – 159: 488,197 candidates (24.97%)

  • Scores between 200 – 249: 334,560 candidates (17.11%)

  • Scores between 250 – 299: 73,441 candidates (3.76%)

  • Scores between 300 – 319: 7,658 candidates (0.39%)

  • Scores from 320 and above: 4,756 candidates (0.24%)

Interestingly, only 12,414 candidates, representing 0.63%, scored above 300 — a threshold often associated with admission into highly competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering.

At the bottom end of the chart:

  • Scores between 120 – 139: 57,419 candidates (2.94%)

  • Scores between 100 – 119: 3,820 candidates (0.20%)

  • Scores below 100: 2,031 candidates (0.10%)

JAMB Releases 2025 UTME Result Statistics

What This Means for Admissions

With a vast majority of candidates scoring below 200, universities and other tertiary institutions may need to adjust their admission cut-off marks for certain courses. The data shows that only 6.74% of candidates scored 250 and above, which may not be enough to fill available slots in top-tier programmes across the country.

JAMB has yet to announce if this will affect general admission policies, but education analysts are already calling for a review of admission benchmarks to reflect the current realities.

The result statistics are a wake-up call to all stakeholders in the education sector. Experts have urged parents, schools, and government agencies to invest more in academic support and exam readiness programs for secondary school students.

Conclusion

The 2025 UTME result breakdown highlights the challenges facing the Nigerian education system, especially in terms of exam preparedness and quality of instruction. As admission season draws near, attention will now shift to how institutions respond to these results in setting their cut-off marks.

GoldenNewsNG will continue to monitor all admission-related updates and share timely information for students and parents.
