The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have been criticized by former Nigerian lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani for diverting funds from local governments to state governments.
Goldennewsng reports that in a post on Sunday, Senator Sani expressed his concerns via his verified Twitter handle.
Keep in mind that the federal government recently accused governors of state of diverting funds from local governments.
At an event on Thursday, the President made the claim that some state governors divert funds from the federation account to local governments councils.
However, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike denied the FG’s claim, arguing that rather than making sweeping claims, it should be made clear who was responsible.
Sani, a well-known social critic, has offered a different perspective on the situation, asserting that the EFCC and ICPC are aware of any attempts to divert local governments’ allocations.
He penned: Without the knowledge of the anti-corruption agencies, it is impossible to divert funds from the local government to the state governments.
“Without their eagle or prying eyes, no significant amount of money can move within the banking system.”They have the ability to halt it.
