What Is JAMB Cut Off Mark?

JAMB Cut Off Mark refers to the minimum score required for eligibility to participate in a specific academic program. It represents the minimum score JAMB candidates must achieve to qualify for the Post UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) of their chosen university.

JAMB Cut Off Mark for Medicine And Surgery

To participate in the Post UTME for Medicine and Surgery, the JAMB Cut Off Mark is generally set at 200. However, some universities, like AAU (Ambrose Alli University), may accept a lower score of 180. Nevertheless, the minimum requirement for most universities (excluding private universities) offering Medicine and Surgery is 180.

While polytechnics might have accepted a lower JAMB score for medicine-related programs, it is important to note that they do not offer Medicine and Surgery as a course.

JAMB Cut Off Mark That Guarantees Admission

Obtaining a JAMB score of 280 or higher greatly increases your chances of securing admission to study Medicine and Surgery in any Nigerian university. With a JAMB score of 280+, your chances of admission to your preferred university are significantly higher, around 70%.

Calculating Aggregate Score For Medicine And Surgery

Different universities adopt various methods to calculate the aggregate score for admission to the Medicine and Surgery program. Some universities use a combination of JAMB and Post UTME scores, while others consider JAMB scores and O’ level results. For example, the University of Benin considers both JAMB and Post UTME scores, while the University of AAU considers JAMB and O’ level results. The University of Lagos takes into account JAMB, Post UTME, and O’ level results.

Regardless of the specific calculation method used by your chosen university, your JAMB score will typically carry 50% weightage. Here is an example of how the average score for Medicine and Surgery is calculated using your JAMB score:

  • JAMB Score divided by 8, plus Post UTME divided by 2 (applicable for schools using Post UTME and JAMB).
  • JAMB Score divided by 8, plus Post UTME 30% and O’ level 20% (for schools considering JAMB, Post UTME, and O’ level).
  • JAMB Score divided by 8 + O’ level (constituting the remaining 50%).

As evident from the calculation, your JAMB score significantly contributes to your overall admission requirements. Therefore, a high JAMB score is crucial when applying for competitive courses like Medicine and Surgery.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a JAMB score of 280 or above is highly recommended to secure admission to study Medicine and Surgery in any Nigerian university. Remember, the JAMB Cut Off Mark is just the first step, and your performance in the Post UTME and O’ level exams also plays a significant role. Focus on achieving a high JAMB score, and with dedication and effort, you can increase your chances of pursuing your desired course successfully.
