JAMB Mentions One Compulsory Requirement for all UTME 2025 Applicants

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated that the National Identification Number (NIN) is compulsory for all candidates registering for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to the Ogun State JAMB coordinator, Hakeem AbdulHameed, the policy aims to curb examination malpractice and enhance security in the admission process.

In its official weekly bulletin released on Monday, February 24, 2025, JAMB emphasized that obtaining an NIN is the first step for any prospective tertiary institution candidate. This means that without a valid NIN, students will be unable to register for UTME 2025.

Why NIN is Essential for UTME Registration

AbdulHameed highlighted the importance of NIN during a recent meeting with representatives from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Abeokuta Study Centre. He stated that all candidates must have their NIN to generate a profile code, a critical step in the UTME registration process.

How to Generate a JAMB Profile Code Using NIN

To successfully register for UTME 2025, candidates must follow these steps:

  1. Ensure you have a registered phone number that has never been used for UTME registration.
  2. Send an SMS in the following format: NIN [your 11-digit NIN] to either 55019 or 66019.
  3. You will receive a unique Profile Code, which is required for registration.

This measure is designed to protect candidates from identity theft and ensure a transparent registration process.

JAMB’s Commitment to Data Security and Admission Transparency

JAMB has reinforced that all admissions—whether through regular or non-regular programs—must go through its system. AbdulHameed pointed out that NOUN programs such as distance learning, sandwich, and part-time studies are classified as non-regular programs, yet still require JAMB’s documentation.

During the meeting, NOUN Abeokuta Study Centre Director, Professor Oyekunle Oluwayemisi Adegboyega, commended JAMB for implementing robust data security measures. He affirmed that NOUN prioritizes data integrity and does not issue certificates to students with discrepancies in their records.

Who Will Be Barred from UTME 2025?

JAMB has issued a stern warning to candidates regarding biometric verification. Any candidate who fails biometric authentication on exam day will not be allowed to sit for the UTME or its mock version.

Additional Guidelines for UTME 2025 Candidates

  • No Parent or Proxy Registration: Candidates must complete the registration process themselves to prevent data mismatches.
  • Strict Surveillance Measures: JAMB is actively monitoring registration centers to ensure compliance and detect fraudulent activities.
  • Accurate Personal Information: Candidates are advised to double-check their details during registration to avoid complications later.

By enforcing these rules, JAMB aims to create a fair and secure examination environment for all candidates.

Final Thoughts

With the UTME 2025 registration process now tied to NIN, candidates must take proactive steps to obtain their NIN and ensure a seamless registration experience. JAMB’s commitment to curbing exam malpractice and safeguarding candidates’ data underscores the importance of adhering to these new policies.

If you haven’t obtained your NIN yet, visit the nearest National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrollment center to register. Taking these steps early will save you from last-minute registration hassles and ensure a smooth path toward gaining admission into your preferred tertiary institution.
