TETFund has approved N110bn for Medical Training and Simulation Tech to Tackle Health Worker Shortage

GoldenNewsNg reports that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has allocated N110 billion to strengthen medical education in Nigeria by training health professionals and introducing advanced simulation technologies in public tertiary institutions.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, during the commissioning of eight major projects at the Federal University of Technology, Babura (FUTB) in Jigawa State.

The newly commissioned infrastructure was executed under the Fund’s Special High Impact Intervention programme and reflects ongoing efforts to transform Nigeria’s education and health sectors.

According to Masari, the investment aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is targeted at bridging the shortage of medical personnel in the country.

“Starting in 2025, N110 billion has been dedicated to improving the training of medical personnel and integrating cutting-edge simulation technology to modernise medical education nationwide,” he said.

Masari explained that the initiative, which will span five years, is aimed at boosting the capacity of Nigeria’s medical institutions, reducing dependence on foreign healthcare, and curbing the brain drain among medical professionals.

“This strategic investment will be sustained over the next five years and is part of a broader national effort to revamp the health sector. We are committed to working with our beneficiary institutions to ensure this intervention delivers lasting, transformative results,” he added.

He also revealed that since its establishment in 2021, FUTB has received a total of N11.36 billion in intervention funds from TETFund, with 75.4% of the allocation already accessed and utilised by the university.

“The Federal University of Technology, Babura, is one of four specialised institutions set up in 2021. Since then, it has benefited from various intervention lines including Annual, Special, Zonal, and High Impact categories,” Masari said.

He noted that the projects commissioned during the visit were executed at a cost of N5.8 billion, further positioning FUTB as a hub for innovation, research, and technological advancement in northern Nigeria.
