On Thursday, January 18, 2024, Evans, accompanied by Joseph Emeka, Chiemeka Arinze, and Udeme Upong, appeared before Justice Adenike Coker at the Ikeja High Court, as reported by GOLDENNEWSNG.
However, Arinze and Upong were conspicuously absent, prompting Justice Coker to inquire about their whereabouts and express concern over their non-attendance. Advising the prosecution to streamline their case and ensure the defense counsels receive requisite evidence before the next adjourned date, the judge set February 1st for the arraignment.
In a concluding note, Lagos State Prosecutor Titi Adeegbe informed the court that the third and fourth defendants were missing, and she lacked information about their status. Defense counsel Mary Dibiaeze revealed that the third defendant had passed away, and the fourth had been discharged. Nelson Onyejaka, representing the second defendant, highlighted the absence of proof of evidence from the prosecution. Notably, Evans had previously received a life sentence from Justice Hakeem Oshodi in February 2022.
Subsequently, before her retirement, retired Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced Evans and his co-defendants to 21 years imprisonment.
