Lionel Messi has topped Forbes rich list and become only the second footballer to earn $1 billion in his career.
The Barcelona superstar has caught up to longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo and earned $1 billion before tax.
The six time Ballon d’or winner is set to Messi beats Ronaldo to be be Highest earning footballer of 2020earn $126m this year due to his insane wages and a variety of sponsorship deals.
He is presently the face of Adidas and has multi year contracts with drinks company Pepsi and video game publisher Konami.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo comes in second place this year with the Juventus forward earning around $117m, but became Football first billionaire when he was listed by Forbes in 2019.
Other illustrious sports personality on the billionaire lists aside the two footballers are, Micheal Jordan, Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather.
Forbes explaining how their list was calculated stated: “To compile our list, we spoke with club’s, player’s agents, commercial sponsors and soccer experts in the US and Europe. All figures are converted to US Dollars and include soccer salaries for the 2020-21 season, bonuses and endorsements.”
