- Only the courses advertised in this notice are available for the session. Candidates are advised to carefully review and study the advertisement before starting the application procedure. It is recommended to print out the advertisement for reference.
- The University will not be held responsible for any mistakes made due to incorrect application.
- The postgraduate academic session for postgraduate programs is 12 calendar months, starting from October 23rd and ending on September 30th of the following year. The duration begins from the date of first registration.
- Programs automatically expire at the end of the prescribed maximum duration. Candidates may apply for an extension of up to 6 months, initially, with a maximum of two such extensions.
POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS OFFERED
- Ph.D. Degree Programs:
- Available to holders of M.A, M.Ed, M.Eng, M.Sc, LL.M, and M.P.H degrees.
- Minimum score of 60% or a minimum of 4 points on a 5-point Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) scale in their Master’s degree programs.
- Duration: Minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months for full-time candidates, or minimum of 48 calendar months and a maximum of 72 calendar months for part-time candidates.
- Relevant courses will be taken, and a thesis is required at the end of the Ph.D. program.
- M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree Programs:
- Available to candidates who scored between 55.00 and 59.99 percent or 3.50 – 3.99 CGPA on a 5-point scale.
- Only full-time candidates are eligible.
- Duration: Minimum of 12 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months.
- A dissertation is produced after the research work, and candidates may be eligible for conversion to the Ph.D. program based on a progress assessment report.
- M.Phil. Degree Programs:
- Available to candidates who scored between 50.00 and 54.99 percent or 3.00 – 3.49 CGPA on a 5-point scale.
- Only full-time candidates are eligible.
- Duration: Minimum of 18 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months.
- A dissertation is produced after the research work.
- Master Degree Programs:
- Offered in M.A, M.Ed, M.Eng, M.Sc, LL.M, and M.P.H degrees.
- Duration: Minimum of 18 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months for full-time candidates, or minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 48 calendar months for part-time candidates.
- All master degree programs involve coursework and require the submission of a research report and dissertation.
- Postgraduate Diploma Degree Programs:
- Available to candidates with a Third Class (honors) degree.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ACADEMIC PROGRAMS:
Please take note of the following general requirements:
- All entry certificate requirements must be met at the time of purchasing the application form.
- The National Youth Service Corp Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate must be dated and presented before the closing date of the UNILORIN PG application form.
- Application forms must be submitted online along with scanned copies of credentials.
- Supporting documents and the hard copy of the application form should be sent to the Secretary, Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, before the closing date stated on the PG application form.
- Transcripts of Academic Records should be addressed and forwarded to the Head of the Department where admission is being sought.
- All applicants must have 5 O/L Credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants who obtained their O/L results before the year 2015 may have a pass in English or Mathematics depending on the program applied for.
- For Master degree programs, applicants must have a minimum of Second Class Honors Degree (Lower Division) from the University of Ilorin or other recognized universities. Different criteria apply for admissions into programs outside the field of the applicant’s first degree.
- Ph.D. degree program applicants must have obtained a relevant Master’s degree with a minimum average weighted score of 60% or a 4.0 CGPA on a 5-point scale.
- Applicants with degrees from foreign universities where English is not the medium of instruction must provide evidence of English Language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL or IELTS scores).
- Postgraduate Diploma and Master Degree program applicants may be subjected to a qualifying examination.
- International applicants are exempted from the qualifying examination, regardless of the class of degree.
- All applicants are requested to submit a proposal of their intended areas of research interests.
- Applicants applying for full-time programs must provide a letter of release from their employers during registration.
