Manchester City hopes of regaining the Premier League title from Liverpool started with a largely comfortable win over Wolves at the Molineaux with Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus all grabbing the goals in a 3-1 win.
The Citizens were given an extended one week break after their European exertions last season and Monday’s late night kick off was only their first match of the season.
De Bruyne got the ball rolling in the 20th minute, converting from the spot after being brought down by Romain Saiss.
Phil Foden put his England woes aside to add the second 12 minutes later after an exquisite team move involving one touch football from the visitors.
Wolves determined not to be rolled over, came out after the break with renewed purpose and grabbed the goal their endeavour deserved when Mexican International Raul Jimenez pulled one back with a 78 minute header.
However, it proved to be a consolation only as Gabriel Jesus late finish in the fifth minute of added time ensured there was to be no repeat of last season thrilling 3-2 win.
