Does UNIBEN offer Medicine and Surgery?

Yes, the University of Benin (UNIBEN) is fully accredited to offer Medicine and Surgery in Nigeria. Students who aspire to become medical doctors and choose UNIBEN as their preferred institution can pursue this program either through JAMB or other direct entry options like JUPEB.

Requirements Checklist

To study Medicine and Surgery at UNIBEN, you must meet the following JAMB and O’level subject requirements:

JAMB Subject: Use of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

O’level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) Requirement: Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Direct Entry Requirements: (i) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Zoology, in addition to the UTME requirements. (ii) BSC, BOS, etc., in a relevant program.

Please note that Mathematics is not required in JAMB for those who want to study Medicine and Surgery at UNIBEN.

Cut Off Mark for Medicine in UNIBEN

To qualify for the Post UTME, you must score at least 200 in JAMB to study Medicine and Surgery at UNIBEN. However, scoring 200 in JAMB does not guarantee admission into the College of Medicine at UNIBEN.

Medicine & Surgery is a highly competitive course in Nigeria, and it is recommended to score well in JAMB. A JAMB score of 300 and above, combined with a strong performance in the UNIBEN Post UTME Exam, is essential to increase your chances of admission.

Post UTME Score for Medicine in UNIBEN

A score of 80 in the UNIBEN Post UTME is considered good enough to secure a spot in the College of Medicine at UNIBEN. It is important to achieve high scores in both JAMB and the Post UTME as admission to the program is determined by various factors such as Merit, ELDS, and general student performance.

UNIBEN Medicine & Surgery Aggregate Score

The aggregate score for admission into Medicine and Surgery at UNIBEN is calculated by dividing your JAMB Score by 8 and your Post UTME score by 2, and then summing them up. Your aggregate score is the summation of your JAMB score divided by 8 and your Post UTME score divided by 2.

For example, if a student wishes to study Medicine at UNIBEN and scored 300 in JAMB and 80 in the Post UTME, the aggregate score can be calculated as follows:

300/8 + 80/2 = 37.5 + 40

This results in an aggregate score of 77.5 for the student. Therefore, the higher your JAMB and Post UTME scores, the higher your average aggregate score, increasing your chances of admission.
