The Cross River Southern Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Daniel Asuquo, has reacted to the plan to redesign the naira.
He said the recent policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria has unsettled many corrupt politicians and businessmen.
GoldenNewsNg reports that He said it will expose and force them to unearth the quantum of local currency they buried in their homes and elsewhere.
Asuquo who is a three-time House of Representatives member, for Biase/Akamkpa federal constituency spoke at the Ernest Etim Bassey NUJ Press Centre Calabar.
He said, “I heartily support the Central Bank of Nigeria’s plan to redesign our currency, which will be introduced on December 15, 2022.
“The redesign and replacement of the currency notes will expose the good number of politicians who hoarded or buried the currency in their houses and underground, waiting to unleash them for political campaigns and next year’s general election.
“I am happy about it and I commend the bank for such a decision”, he said.
He used the opportunity to debunk rumours in the state that he was no longer the Senatorial candidate of the party following a judgement of the high court.
He said he has since moved to the Appeal Court and insisted that he was still the authentic candidate of the party.
“We have appealed the judgment. I am still the LP candidate Cross River Southern Senatorial District.”
It would be recalled that the candidate of the APC for the same position, Ekpenyong Asuquo jr, had legally challenged Daniel Asuquo’s candidacy over the allegation that his emergence did not follow laid down procedures.
