NDU Acknowledges Support
In a letter dated February 20, 2025, and August 12, 2025, NDU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Allen A. Agih, confirmed receipt of the first tranche of ₦82.64 million. He described the intervention as a “heartfelt support” that eases the financial burden on students.
“On behalf of the University Management, I would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the support to students of Niger Delta University,” the Vice-Chancellor noted.
The disbursement underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to making higher education more accessible through the newly established NELFUND loan scheme. The initiative is designed to reduce the dropout rate linked to financial hardship and give students a fairer chance at completing their studies.
Education experts say the timely intervention could also boost academic performance, since many students will now be able to focus on learning rather than struggling to raise tuition fees.
NELFUND has been actively rolling out loan support across Nigerian universities and polytechnics, in line with its mandate to provide interest-free loans for tuition and other educational needs.
With over 2,000 NDU students already covered, the fund signals a wider expansion plan that could transform student financing nationwide.
