The Labour Party (LP) Governorship candidate, Dr. Joshua Bawa has on Thursday pledged that if voted in as governor in the 2023 elections, his salary will be as low as N30,000 in line with the minimum wage.
Bawa who stated this during an interaction with journalists in Minna said the security and welfare of people is a constitutional requirement for any government to succeed.
According to him “In Labour Party, all we are after is offering services to the people. Government has done so much for us, so we have to give back. On my emolument, since N30,000 is the minimum wage of workers, if elected I will take same N30,000 as my salary.
“Security and welfare of Nigerlites is a constitutional requirement for any government to succeed and that’s one of the area we want to look into, if you secure Niger state, if you secure our communities or rural areas, it means you can strive.”
He added that “If elected, I will address four key areas: Security, Education, Economic and Digital novelty with acronym SEED”.
He however lamented the state of education sector, saying a random check carried across schools in Niger state, revealed alot of infrastructural decay in the system.
Bawa urged that,” if you take a random visit of primary schools in the Minna alone you will find out that some students are still studying under the trees, sitting on bare floor, sitting on stones or unroofed infrastructure that is unacceptable.
“This are things boardering us as a state and as a people. All these are against the Child Right Act and any government that want to provide that has to rejig the system to get the desired results”.
Dr. Bawa disclosed further that, his administration will provide an enabling environment for businesses such Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, SMSE, to thrive in order to reduce the economic hardship being experienced.
