As part of their contribution towards improving health care services, Communities in Niger state have renovated Primary Health Care facilities in five local government areas.
Speaking on behalf of other communities, Dr. Stephen Adesoye, a representative of the Tudun Fulani and Gabbas communities in Bosso LGA told Journalists that despite the challenges of the facilities especially the small nature, the members of the communities mobilised themselves and were able to renovate and extend the health facilities.
He stated further that, if more financial support are gotten, health facilities will be maintained and improved up.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Olasukanmi Kalejaiyi said the meeting/media briefing is to amongst others develop working relationship and linkages with media organization.
He said ACOMIN has been able to reintroduce a good health seeking behavior in communities they operate.
According to him “all the communities we operate, citizens now willingly walk into any of the facilities to assess health services.
“We have gotten huge kudos from some of our communities on how we helped to give a befitting facility facelift. We have also be able to cement a good working relation with the Ministry of Health, State Primary Heath care development Agency as well as community leaders in the state”.
ACOMIN is currently implementing with 15 CBOs in 5 LGAs of Niger State Which include Bosso, Lapai, Wushishi, Mashegu and Shiroro.
Speaking also, the Niger State Program Officer ACOMIN, Solomon Oladimeji said for the renovation of PHC in Tudun Fulani City Gate Bosso LGA, so far, 25 Bags of Cement, 250 Blocks, sand and other building materials have been donated by community members and the renovation has started.
He added that, the story is the same at Kaboji/Adogo Community of Mashegu LGA where community members contributed and participated in the renovation of PHC Adogo as a result of ACOMIN’s activities in the community.
Atleast one hundred and thirty five facilities have been given attention to in various communities in the five local government areas ACOMIN operates.
In his goodwill message, the District Head of Maikunkele, Alhaji Suleiman Abdullahi Dada commended the different CSOs in Niger state for their support towards the development of rural communities across the three senatorial zones and called for more of such support.
Also speaking, representative of the Director, Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), Dr. Hauwa Kolo commended CSOs for the good partnership and assured of the state government’s preparedness to support willing partners to the development of the various sectors of the state economy.
