Nigerians Beg for Access to Their Money as CBN Revokes Bank Licenses.
Customers of Eyowo, a digital bank whose license was revoked by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), are pleading with the bank to allow them access to their funds.
Initially, the bank had assured customers that the restrictions on their accounts would be lifted within 24 hours, as it was actively working to resolve the issue with the apex bank. However, five days have passed since the promise was made, and customers are still unable to withdraw or deposit money into their accounts. Many customers have taken to social media to express their frustration, stating that the inability to access their funds is negatively impacting their livelihoods.

One customer, Sandra Avwomakpa, revealed that she is facing significant trouble as she cannot access her funds, which belong to other people. She pleaded with Eyowo to release the money, emphasizing that it is urgently needed for contributions and that people are counting on it.
Another customer requested that the bank enable him to transfer his funds to another bank account, as the delay is becoming intolerable.
In response, Eyowo sent an email to its customers on Monday, May 29, 2023, reassuring them that their funds were secure. However, the bank did not provide a specific timeline for when customers would regain access to their accounts.
Eyowo also addressed the recent statement made by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) regarding liquidated banks. The bank stated that its customers would not be affected by this statement, as their funds are held with commercial bank partners.
During this challenging time, Eyowo emphasized its commitment to maintaining open lines of communication with customers and addressing any concerns they may have.
