NIN Application Guide and Requirements for JAMB 2023 Candidates can be accessed below.

GoldenNewsNg have outlined below, the simplest procedures available for any student to obtain the National Identification Number (NIN). As at the time of writing this article, registration for 2023 JAMB’s UTME will only be approved for candidates that have their NINs. This simply means that it is very important to get NIN before proceeding to register for JAMB 2023.

In view of this, we deem it very necessary to provide  NIN Application Guide and Requirements for JAMB 2023 Candidates before the 2023 UTME registration begins as the registration is expected to commence soon. 2023 UTME Candidates are equally advised to start preparing for their exams using the JAMB CBT mobile app and JAMB CBT computer software.

What is NIN?

The National Identification Number (NIN) is a set of numbers assigned to an individual upon successful enrolment. Enrolment consists of the recording of an individual’s demographic data and capture of the ten (10) fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture and digital signature, which are all used to cross-check existing data in the National Identity Database to confirm that there is no previous entry of the same data.

Once this (de-duplication) process is completed the data is then stored with a unique NIN that was assigned to it. The NIN once issued to a person cannot be used again, (that is, it cannot be issued to another person even if the previous person is dead). It is the NIN that helps to tie all records about a person in the database and is used to check the identity verified.

The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual in the database and is also used to establish or verify his/her identity. All citizens and legal residents in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above are eligible to enrol for their NINs.

First, Check if you already have a NIN

The first step before you proceed to register to get your NIN is to check if you already have one. To know this, with the phone used to register for the NIN, Dial *346# on your phone to retrieve your NIN. Once your NIN is displayed, you can either screenshot it, or note it down somewhere. Please note that you’re not to share your NIN information on any social media platform. You can, however, share it when requested by trusted institutions. Getting your NIN by dailing *346# is totally FREE OF CHARGE on all Nigerian Mobile Networks including MTN, AIRTEL, GLO and 9mobile.

STEPS

  • Applicants are to walk into the enrolment Centre with a supporting document.
  • The applicant will be verified to ascertain if he/she has ever enrolled using the NIN verification portal.
  • The applicant will be issued an enrolment form to fill if he/she has not enrolled before. OR the printed Barcode slip (for those who applied online) will be collected if the applicant had pre-enrolled earlier using the pre-enrolment service.
  • Applicant’s forms will be vetted by a NIMC Official to crosscheck the information filled on the form against the supporting documents provided and to check for errors/mistakes filled on the form. Note: applicants who cannot read nor write should be accompanied by a literate individual who can fill out the form for him/her.
