NPC Server Under Attack : During the ‘Bloggers/Social Media Interactive Workshop for a Successful 2023 Population and Housing Census’ in Abuja, Dr. Inuwa Jalingo, Manager of the National Population Commission (NPC), revealed that over 1,000 hackers had breached the commission’s server ahead of the census.
However, he assured the audience that the situation had been brought under control through the deployment of a specialized workforce and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) classes, as well as a mop-up phase.
Dr. Jalingo also noted that the United Nations (UN) recommends the use of digital tools for the conduct of censuses, and Nigeria’s 2023 Population and Housing Census, being the country’s first digital census, will employ innovative digital tools and procedures to enhance the census-taking process.
These tools have been integrated into various aspects of the census, such as the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD), pretesting of tools, recruitment, data quality management, monitoring and evaluation, project management, communications, main data collection fieldwork monitoring, and dissemination.
