The Vice-Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Samuel Kayode, popularly known as Ekpo Kinkin, has been murdered at the Agboju area of Lagos State.
GoldenNewsNG learnt that the deceased, who was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was shot dead when unknown gunmen invaded a rally organised by the ruling party at Oriade Local Development Area on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses said the crowd scampered to safety when the heard the gunshot during the rally which was attended by top officials of the party among whom was Chairman of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Mr Valentine Buraimo.
Samuel Kayode was found in the pool of his blood when those inside the hall rushed out to find out the reason behind the shooting.
The NURTW Vice-Chairman was said to have been rushed to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Navy Town, Ojo, where he was confirmed dead.
Jimoh Buhari, the spokesman for the NURTW Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, who confirmed the incident to The Punch, said that the deceased was trying to protect a fellow politician when he was killed.
“He was protecting a fellow politician, Wale Yusuf, from harassment when the gunmen shot him dead,” Buhari said.
