NYSC 2021: NYSC News Update 26th March 2021

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General, Shuaibu Ibrahim, has advised Corp members to take the Scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) seriously, as it can make them business owners (entrepreneur), and also bring about employment to those that will work under them, after the completion of the national youth service year.

This very opportunity of the DG to address corp members at large took place at the orientation camp of the 2021 Batch A stream I, in Emure/Ise/Orun Permanent Orientation Camp, Ekiti State. He went on to let corp members know that acquiring skills is the only solution to the increasing rate of youths unemployment in the country.

There are other social vices seen in this current age that will encourage Corp members to be focused, and deliver their expected duties diligently in their PPA after the camping activities.

The DG of NYSC also went on to explain the importance of Community Development Service (CDS), as he urged Corp members to cooperate with their host communities and leave an indelible footprint through the CDS scheme.

This they can achieve by observing, and identifying the critical needs of their host community, after which a perfect solution should be drafted out, and executed either through personal CDS or group CDS.

Aside these, he urged Corp members to be security conscious in their PPA, that if possible they should access the community and identify escape routes should there be mishap.

Corps members should also inform their colleagues about their movements, and if possible have an harmonious understanding with security agencies and community leaders who can be contacted in times of need.

The DG concluded by presenting some works done by ex-corp member John Okonoboh, who learnt shoe making under the SAED program and today making it through shoe production.
