NYSC Camp Registration Requirements And Guidelines 2023

Attention all prospective corp members (PCMs) seeking information about the requirements for the NYSC camp! Look no further than this informative article. Here, you will find everything you need to know about the NYSC Camp registration requirements for 2023, the registration procedure, personal items necessary for the NYSC Camp, and additional information to help you prepare for this unique camp experience. Keep reading to delve into the contents of this article.

NYSC Orientation Camp: What to Expect

The NYSC orientation camp for Batch B Stream I is scheduled to commence in June. The camp spans a duration of three weeks, during which various activities take place, including parade drills, SAED (Skill Acquisition), cultural displays, carnivals, educational lectures, and more.

As you embark on your NYSC journey, it is important to note that the camp experience can be challenging at times. From early morning wake-ups for parade drills to attending lectures, you may encounter some discomfort. However, do not let this deter you, as the NYSC Camp experience often turns out to be the most memorable and enjoyable part of your service year. It provides an opportunity to meet individuals from diverse cultures, ethnicities, institutions, and backgrounds.

To ensure a smooth start, make sure to arrive at the NYSC Camp early enough for timely registration and to familiarize yourself with the camp environment.

Below is a comprehensive list of the compulsory items you need for NYSC Orientation Camp Registration.

It is crucial to bring the following documents to the NYSC Camp, so take note of them and ensure you have all the necessary copies.

  1. Final year ID card

Bring the original copy of your final year ID card and two (2) photocopies. Visit your school’s Directorate of Students’ Affairs and request a ‘final year ID card.’ In most cases, schools issue school IDs, which are also accepted by NYSC. However, note that departmental ID cards are not accepted by NYSC.

  1. Statement of result (B.Sc. or HND)

Present the original copy of your statement of result along with four (4) photocopies. It is crucial to bring this document to camp, as it serves as proof of your educational qualification. Without a statement or certificate, attending camp would be futile. If you are a foreign student, bring your original certificates. If you graduated from a polytechnic, present your ND and HND statement of results.

Prospective corp members (PCMs) in the medical field, such as doctors, pharmacists, optometrists, etc., must bring evidence of completion of internship or housemanship and an original certificate from the Nigerian Medical Council, Pharmacist Board, or Optometrist Registration Council.

  1. NYSC Call-up letter

This document is of utmost importance; under no circumstance should you forget to bring your call-up letter! Carry the original copy of your call-up letter and four photocopies. NYSC usually sends this letter a few days after registration. Please note that laminated call-up letters will not be accepted by camp officials.

  1. NYSC Green card

Ensure you bring the original copy of your Green Card and four (4) photocopies. The Green Card is the online print-out slip received after completing NYSC online registration. Do not laminate it!

Note: Both the Green Card and call-up letter should be printed in color.

  1. Recent passport photograph

Carry eight (8) copies of your passport photograph to camp. The background color of the passport should be white or off-white.

  1. Medical Certificate of Fitness

Bring two (2) copies of a medical certificate of fitness obtained from any government hospital or military clinic in Nigeria.

  1. Uploaded Documents

Foreign-trained PCMs must bring the original copies of all documents uploaded during online registration to the camp.

NYSC Camp Registration Procedure

Upon arrival at the camp gate, present your medical certificate of fitness and undergo compulsory COVID-19 screening conducted by the NCDC. Only those who test negative will be allowed entry. You will receive a slip and go through manual and electronic security checks for unauthorized items before entering the camp.

Once inside, you will be allocated a hostel and provided with a mattress from the store. Choose your bed space and proceed to the registration unit with the required documents stated in your call-up letter. Present your gate slip, original call-up letter, original school certificate or statement of result, and institution’s identity card for manual verification.

Next, proceed to the ICT table for digital verification and the issuance of your state registration numbers (code). Then, proceed to the next unit for the meal ticket and number tag. The number tag will serve as your temporary identity card until you receive a plastic corps member’s identity card. It is mandatory to wear the tag at all times.

Bank staff will be available at the hall to help you open an account through which your allowances will be paid right from the camp. Locate the assigned bank and fill out the account opening form before proceeding to the next step.

Visit your platoon officer to receive your file and kit items, including NYSC uniforms. Note that the last digit of your tag code indicates your platoon number (e.g., if your tag number ends with 9, you are in platoon 9).

Personal Items to Take to NYSC Camp

To ensure a comfortable camp experience, pack the following personal items:

  • A pair of white tennis shoes (consider purchasing cork-made shoes for easier washing)
  • Antiseptics/disinfectants
  • Bed items: bedspread/sheets, pillowcases, pillows, and a wrapper or blankets
  • Bucket
  • Dish sets: food flask, spoon, and drinking cup or flask
  • Dish washing agent
  • File jackets
  • Flashlight (torchlight)/rechargeable lamps
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Money and ATM cards
  • Phone charger/power bank
  • Plain white sneakers or tennis shoes
  • Provisions
  • Rubber slippers
  • Stationery
  • Toiletries
  • Towels
  • White round-neck T-shirt
  • Treated mosquito net
  • Underwear
  • Waist pouch
  • White shorts
  • White socks
  • Padlocks

Note: Laptops, clippers, TVs, and sharp objects are prohibited in the camp. If found during the gate check, these items will be confiscated and returned only at the end of the camp. Additionally, the items listed above can be purchased at the camp’s mammy market, so there is no need to bring them from home and burden yourself with excess luggage.
