The old Naira notes must still be exchanged by January 31, 2023, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Goldennewsng reports that this was stated by the apex bank under its official Twitter handle, @cenbank.
The tweet said, Until the 31st of January 2023, the current series of N200, N500, and N1,000 notes can be used as cash.
This indicates that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has not yet taken an official position to extend its earlier deadline, though it has indicated that it intends to eliminate the 200, 500, and 1,000 naira notes over the next few days.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced in October that the old Naira notes would no longer be in circulation and would become legal tender on January 31, 2023, citing a number of reasons for this decision.
The public had responded in a variety of ways to the announcement, which contributed to the National Assembly’s request that the CBN extend the January 31, 2023 deadline.
