Over 51,000 Adamawa Residents Receive ₦75,000 Each Through FG Conditional Cash Transfer Programme

More than 51,000 poor and vulnerable residents across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State have received ₦75,000 each under the Federal Government’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme since January 2025. The initiative is part of the broader National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods across Nigeria.

In addition to the current disbursements, 64,000 residents benefited from ₦5,000 monthly support in 2024, while another 51,000 individuals have been reached under the newly introduced Renewed Hope (RR) programme, also under the NSIP framework.

These figures were disclosed by Mrs. Mary Yuwadi, Adamawa State Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, during a one-day sensitisation workshop held in Yola. The event brought together Desk Officers (DOs), Co-Responsibility Officers (CROs), and Community Facilitator Officers (CFOs) from all 21 LGAs in the state.

The workshop organised by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in collaboration with the National Social Investment Programmes Agency, the National Transfer Office, and the Adamawa State Government was aimed at strengthening grassroots implementation and public awareness of the programme.

Focus on Women, Youth, and Community Impact

Mrs. Yuwadi explained that the ₦75,000 support is targeted primarily at women and young people, helping them cushion economic hardship and improve their quality of life. She noted that the programme has already made a positive impact in reducing poverty, unemployment, and social vulnerability across the state.

However, she pointed out that a lack of awareness remains a significant challenge in many communities. This is why the workshop emphasized the training of community mobilisers, who are expected to return to their localities and educate residents about the programme and how to benefit from it.

Yuwadi also acknowledged the transition from manual (table) payments to digital payments, which has added a layer of complexity for beneficiaries, particularly for those who are uneducated or receiving aid for the first time. She stressed that properly training community officers will help close the gap and ensure smoother implementation.

Addressing Challenges in Rural Areas

Mrs. Mary John Zanguwa, the State Grievances Redress Manager, echoed these sentiments. She said that while the office receives a range of complaints from beneficiaries, the low level of awareness, especially in rural communities, remains a pressing issue.

To tackle this, the training also included strategies for improving communication and outreach, ensuring that more residents, especially in hard-to-reach areas, understand how to access the programme and file grievances where necessary.

With the support of trained personnel and increased community engagement, the Adamawa Cash Transfer Office is optimistic that the programme’s reach and effectiveness will expand significantly in the coming months.

The initiative remains a key pillar of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at empowering vulnerable citizens, promoting social inclusion, and lifting millions out of poverty through targeted interventions.
