The Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 9, Isaac Akinmoyede has on Thursday disclosed that over Six thousand, five hundred and five Policemen will be deployed across Niger state to ensure the 2023 general elections is free, fair and without disorderliness across the State.
Akinmoyede while addressing Journalists at the Niger State Police Command Headquarters in Minna, said the Police will also be working alongside three thousand, three hundred and fifty eight Personnels from other agencies excluding the Military and Department of State Service (DSS).
The AIG who was deployed to oversee elections in Niger State also warned that the Police will not tolerate thuggery or any form of disorderliness prior to or during and after the elections. Adding that, “the government wants the elections to be free, fair, credible and that is what we (the Police) will do”.
According to him “since on Tuesday that I arrived Niger state, I have met with my men on ground and I have been briefed by the Commissioner of Police.
The State landmass is a major challenge but with communications things have been made easy. We are deploying 6,505 Police officers and men to various parts of the State to ensure the election is peaceful and free of any rancour.
Our sister agencies excluding the Military and DSS will also be part of us and we are expecting 3,358 of them.”
He also disclosed that, the Police has discovered flashed Local Government Areas in the State to include Munya, Rafi, Shiroro, Paikoro, Gurara and Mariga.
Furthermore, he said while the Police and other Security agencies will remain professional in discharging their duties, the security and safety of INEC workers, Journalists and other staffers who are on essential duty will be guaranteed.
