1. Delay in Payment of Backlog Stipends: One of the key issues facing the NPower program currently is the delay in the payment of backlog stipends to beneficiaries. Beneficiaries who were owed stipends for previous months are experiencing delays in receiving their payments. This issue had caused frustration among some program participants who relied on these stipends for their livelihoods.

2. Delay in Recruitment: Another significant development is the delay in the commencement of new NPower recruitment for the year 2023. Normally, the program would open its portal for new applicants to apply and be onboarded into various tracks. However, as of October 2023, there had been delays in announcing and initiating the recruitment process for the next batch of beneficiaries.

3. Ongoing Program Activities: Despite these challenges, the existing beneficiaries who had previously enrolled in the program were continuing their activities and receiving training in their respective tracks. NPower was actively engaged in providing skills development and job opportunities to these beneficiaries to enhance their employability.

4. Government Commitment to Youth Empowerment: The delay in payments and recruitment had led to concerns among beneficiaries and other stakeholders. However, it’s important to note that the Nigerian government had consistently expressed its commitment to youth empowerment through programs like NPower. The delays might have been due to administrative or funding issues that the government was actively addressing.

5. Calls for Transparency and Communication: During this period, there were calls from beneficiaries and observers for more transparency in the program’s operations and better communication with beneficiaries regarding payment timelines and recruitment plans. Improved communication was seen as a way to manage expectations and reduce anxiety among program participants.

Nigerian Minister Makes Startling Revelations About NPower Payment List

Betta Edu, Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has recently highlighted some significant issues with the NPower program, which is aimed at reducing unemployment in the country. In a discussion on Arise TV, she revealed several challenges within the program and explained the steps the ministry is taking to address them.

One of the major concerns raised by Minister Betta Edu is the presence of individuals on the NPower payment list who should not have been included. This issue implies that resources allocated for the program may not have been properly distributed, potentially affecting the intended beneficiaries. Additionally, some recipients of NPower funds did not receive their payments in a timely manner, raising questions about the management of these funds.

Furthermore, Edu mentioned that there were people who were no longer eligible for the program but remained on the payment list. This situation not only strains the program’s resources but also raises questions about the accuracy of the program’s records.

To tackle these challenges, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has taken several measures. One of the first steps was the formation of a committee to thoroughly investigate these issues, with the ministry’s secretary at the helm. This committee is responsible for identifying discrepancies, addressing payment delays, and rectifying the inclusion of ineligible individuals on the payment list.

In addition to addressing issues with the NPower program, Minister Betta Edu emphasized the federal government’s commitment to poverty alleviation. The government’s goal is to uplift at least 133 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) signed at the United Nations. This ambitious target underscores the government’s determination to improve the living conditions of its citizens and create a more equitable society.

The NPower program, which offers employment and skill development opportunities to both graduates and non-graduates, plays a crucial role in the government’s efforts to combat unemployment and reduce poverty. It not only provides job opportunities but also equips individuals with valuable skills that can enhance their earning potential both locally and internationally.

In conclusion, while challenges have been identified within the NPower program, the government is taking proactive steps to rectify these issues and ensure that the program fulfills its objectives of reducing unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. Minister Betta Edu’s commitment to addressing these concerns demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving the lives of its citizens and achieving sustainable development goals.

Man Arrested After Disguising as Dispatch Rider to Murder Ex-Girlfriend in Lagos

Residents of a Lagos estate were left in shock on Thursday night after a young woman, Deborah Porsche, popularly known as Debporsche, was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend, identified simply as Lintex, nearly a year after their breakup. According to reports, Lintex had repeatedly threatened Deborah since their split in August 2024, allegedly vowing: “If I don’t have you, nobody will. If I no marry you, blood go flow.” Deborah’s sister described her as a hardworking interior decorator who had just completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). She further alleged that the deceased endured emotional abuse throughout her relationship with Lintex, which ultimately pushed her to walk away. On the night of the attack, the suspect disguised himself as a dispatch rider in an attempt to infiltrate the estate. Security guards reportedly stopped him at the gate, but he scaled the fence and gained entry to Deborah’s apartment. Eyewitnesses said Lintex first tampered with the gas cylinder line outside the apartment, allegedly trying to cause an explosion. When that failed, he forced his way inside and stabbed Deborah multiple times with a knife he brought along. Alarmed neighbours rushed to the scene and alerted the police. The suspect was subdued and handed over to law enforcement officers. Police authorities have confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing. Deborah’s tragic death has sparked outrage online and renewed calls for stronger legal protections for women against abusive and obsessive partners.
