On Monday, May 20, Akintunde Sawyerr, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), detailed the requirements for potential beneficiaries.

President Tinubu signed the bill into law on April 3, fulfilling his promise to ensure no Nigerian student drops out due to financial constraints.

Here is a comprehensive guide to applying for a student loan through the NELFUND platform:

1. Access the Loan Application Portal

  • Visit the NELFUND website at www.nelf.gov.ng and navigate to the loan application portal.

2. Create or Log Into Your Account

  • If you are a new user, create an account. If you already have an account, log in. This account will enable you to save your progress and access your application at any time.

3. Prepare Necessary Documents

  • Gather and upload the following documents:
    • Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) admission letter
    • National Identification Number (NIN)
    • Bank Verification Number (BVN)
  • These documents are crucial for verifying your identity, academic status, and financial need.

4. Complete the Loan Application Form

  • Fill out the form with your personal details, including:
    • Name
    • Contact information
    • Date of birth
  • Provide academic information such as:

5. Review and Submit Your Application
