The All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for next year’s election in Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has stated that the establishment of state police will assist in no small measure in resolving the country’s security issues.
Goldennewsng reports that the gubernatorial candidate made the observation on Saturday while interacting with journalists at the Secretariat of the Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. He said that the presence of illegal arms all over the country is worrying and that insecurity has increased in some areas.
“The creation of state police will increase the number of those who effectively man the incursion of people with evil intentions to kill and destroy valuable property,” states the candidate for governor.
Additionally, the state police will grant the governors the authority to use them to apprehend potential threats anywhere in the state in order to maintain peaceful coexistence.
He went on to say that the establishment of state police, as is the case in the United States, would make it possible for state governors to perform at the highest level as chief security officers in their respective jurisdictions. He also said that this would significantly reduce the activities of those who are determined to make life miserable for citizens.
He said that insecurity is a national problem and that, if elected, his government would critically examine the state’s problems by addressing the underlying causes in order to find a long-term solution.
He stated that there is a constitutional issue in Nigeria because no government has control over the security architecture like the police and other state-based security agencies do, pointing out that members of the National Assembly are working on it.
He emphasized once more that state police are the only way to move forward, which is why lawmakers have agreed to look into that option as a means of resolving the country’s security issues. He said that every state can have the number of police officers it wants and equip them accordingly.
“There are so many illegal firearms in the country, and something urgent needed to be done to arrest the ugly situation in the country,” according to their findings at the National Assembly.
Because he believed that this was the only way to build trust, unity, and peace in the state, he promised that every part of the state would fully participate in its administration if elected.
The candidate for governor also stated that his administration would ensure rural infrastructure development, noting that the administration led by Governor El-Rufai has accomplished a lot in urban renewal.
