The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has described political activist and pro-campaigner of the Oodua Republic, Sunday Adeyemi a.k.a Sunday Igboho as a ‘child of circumstance’.
Governor Akeredolu has said that the situations that led to Igboho’s intervention in Ondo State need to be evaluated when judging his actions. In recent weeks, Igboho has continued to condemn the habitation of Fulani herdsmen in Ondo and Oyo. He also masterminded the ‘banishment’ of the herders in Igangan forests.
This action had sparked outrage from millions of Nigerians. Reacting to Igboho’s actions, Akeredolu has said that the activist is a child of circumstance. According to him, these circumstances may not be justifiable but they need to be examined.
Akeredolu made his opinion known while speaking on Channels Television on Monday night, February 15.
In his words;
“Sunday Igboho is a child of circumstance. We must look at the circumstance that led to each of these interventions,
“There are things that we do at times that you have to know what led to them. Those circumstances might not be justifiable, might not be legal, but again when you look at it, you’ll know we are a child of circumstance.”
Akeredolu who also doubles as the Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, however, stressed that he’s not in support of the fact that Igboho took the laws into his own hands. He also called for calm and urged citizens to desist from jungle justice.
He said;
““I for one, I’ve always said that I will not support anyone taking laws into his own hands. That’s why I had to go to Ibadan,
“That’s why I will go to every other place in the South-West to preach about illegality and that we are against illegal actions. We are not for it at all,
““We do not support violence and in particular, brigandage, jungle justice and unnecessary self-help.”
