Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno State, stated that the state’s security has improved and that the 2023 elections will go off without a hitch.
Goldennewsng reports that shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, he stated that the stability rate was 90%.
The governor was able to provide an update on the state’s IDP rehabilitation and resettlement process during the meeting with President Buhari.
While speaking with reporters who were covering the State House ruling, Zulum stated, There is always a security risk in every location; The federal government and the military had supported the Borno State government, and we have been able to make significant progress toward returning the state to its former peaceful state.
Zulum made the following statement regarding the upcoming general elections: Borno State residents cast ballots in the 2015 elections. Additionally, they cast votes in the 2019 elections. Can you make a comparison between the security situation in 2019 and 2011? We can brag that Borno’s security has significantly improved by more than 90%. Therefore, we have no issues.”
He went on to say: Insha Allah, there are no security concerns in Borno State, so eligible voters can go out and vote on the scheduled election day.
The governor stated that all official IDP camps in the Maiduguri metropolis had been dismantled or shut down indefinitely, noting that all unofficial camps would also be shut down in a few months regarding the resettlement of IDPs, particularly returning them to their original homes.
“Resettlement is not something that is simple, and it will take a very long time. However, the most important thing is that those who are in dire need of relocation will be relocated. But most importantly, as I mentioned a year ago, we have shut down all official IDP camps within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area.
There is currently no officially recognized IDP camp within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. In the coming months, the unofficial camps will also be closed, he stated.
He responded to claims that insurgents are still in control of some parts of the state: Even in the developed world, there are still pockets of insecurity, but overall, we have accomplished a great deal. Over ninety percent of our security station has been upgraded.
He continued: We have noticed an improvement in our state’s security on our own. We are currently doing very well in Borno State. Additionally, our rehabilitation and relocation are going very well. We are eager to determine how to restore Maiduguri-Gomboru/Ngala Road, followed by Maiduguri-Banki Road, in order to provide individuals with opportunities to earn a living.
Zulum stated, “it is impossible to question the destiny of God,” when discussing his chances of winning a second term and his re-election campaign.
