Dino Melaye, a former senator, has aired his opinion on what will happen if President Muhammadu Buhari arrest Bishop Kukah
GoldenNewsNg gathered that Dino Melaye, a former senator, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against attempting to arrest the Bishop Kukah of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Kukah, for criticising the current administration.
The bishop has been under fire by some groups in the country for accusing President Buhari of crass nepotism.
However, Melaye has suggested that such an action against the religious leader would prompt a backlash from the people. He warned that if Bishop Kukah is arrested, the president will be shown that the government is not owned by him but by the people
Arrest or try to embarass Bishop Kukah and we will prove to you that Government is not owned by you but the people. They want to scare every body. Ko jooooo. Kill fear and speak the truth to power.

Meanwhile, Lauretta Onochie, a presidential aide has lent her voice to the ongoing saga involving Bishop Kukah. Onochie, in response, insinuated that Kukah’s outburst may have come as a result of Buhari refusing to part with money. In a post on her Twitter page on Monday, December 28, she said both the president and the cleric have met a number of times and she shared photos to back her claim.
Similarly, Professor Ishaq Akintola has criticised Bishop Kukah over his comments. The founder, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), accused the cleric of disrespecting Islam.
Akintola described the statement by Kukah as reckless, inflammatory, and unguarded. But the catholic church has defended the bishop against those who are criticising him. The national directorate of social communications of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in Abuja said that the attacks that the message has attracted are the stock in trade of evil people. According to the Catholic Church, the bishop has done the right thing in condemning the ills of Buhari’s administration
