Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1.The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reached a new agreement with the federal government. The leadership of the House of Representatives on Tuesday brokered the new agreement after four hours of meeting at the National Assembly, in Abuja.

2. Senate President, Ahmad Lawan’s name is not on the final list of contestants published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Lawan and Bashir Machina have been locked in a long drawn battle over the ticket of the ruling party for Yobe North which Lawan currently represents

3. Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has said Nigerians are fed up with governments at all levels, warning that the electorate would shock politicians and political parties in the forthcoming 2023 elections. Speaking to journalists in Benin, Edo State capital, on Tuesday, Obaseki said politicians should expect surprise from the electorate due to poor governance and inefficiency.

4. The National Association of Nigerian Students has said its members will block the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and Kaduna-Abuja Expressway on Wednesday (today) as part of its protest against the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

5. Three herdsmen have allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl in Kwarra community, in the Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. A source in the community told our correspondent that the herdsmen, who were armed with knives and other sharp objects on Monday night, invaded the residence of the girl and forcefully took her to a bush where she was allegedly raped to coma.

6. Tension is mounting in the South South zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over an alleged move to relocate the zonal secretariat from Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The South South PDP, in a statement by the zonal Organising Secretary, Ekom Akonjom, based on a communique issued after a meeting of the party, noted that a zonal consultative meeting, which ordinarily should hold in the Rivers State capital is scheduled to hold in one of the nearby States.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has asked for the Senate’s approval for the issuance of promissory notes totalling over N402 billion. The first of such requests read in plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, was N375 billion meant for settlement of outstanding claims owed various exporters.

8. Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday in Abuja, said the generation and collection of revenues have remained the country’s major challenges. He also said the massive loss of revenue through oil theft, now “debilitating and threatening to throw the economy into a coma.”

9. Apex Igbo socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndígbo, yesterday, condemned the alleged continued denial of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, medical attention, despite the directive of the court. Ohanaeze warned the Federal Government of the implications of allowing any harm to come upon Kanu.

10. The Prelate of Methodist Church, Nigeria, Dr Samuel Kanu Uche, and former Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, yesterday, expressed displeasure over the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. While the Prelate described the lingering strike as a deliberate attempt by the Federal Government to punish Nigerian youths, Sanusi said the issue had the capacity to destroy Nigeria’s education system and development.
